The 25-Mile Badge that Turned into 33
My Friday workout was a comedy of errors with a high-mileage plot twist! There was a Garmin 40K cycling badge up for grabs, and I had the perfect strategy: a 30-minute Peloton ride followed by a spin on my other bike while catching up on reading blogs. I projected about 7 and 18 miles respectively to hit the mark. The transition was seamless… until nature called. I paused my Garmin—something I’ve done a thousand times—but when I hopped back on, I accidentally hit save instead of resume, and I was back to zero.
My husband and Kim both offered clever “tech workarounds” to merge the rides, but in the end, my stubbornness took over. I decided to just keep spinning until I hit the full 25 miles on the second watch-entry alone. I finished the day with over 33 miles and a very hard-earned badge!
Overview of the Week
Before getting into each day’s workouts, here’s an overview of my workouts from this past week. Scroll beyond the infographic for daily details…
Sunday
Pilates: Peloton Emma Lovewell 10-Minute Core Strength
Walking: 3.08 miles
• Average pace: 17:59 minute/mile
• Elevation gain: 151 feet
• Start time: 1:59 PM
• Location: neighborhood circle
• Weather: 80° and sunny
• What I wore: shorts, s/s shirt, and visor
Even though I was still recovering from being sick, the day was far too beautiful to not get outside and enjoy the weather, so I forced myself outside for a slow walk… before taking a much needed afternoon nap.
Monday
Strength training: 1 hour of total body

Pilates: Adrian Williams 15-Minute Stretch for Longevity
Feeling substantially better, I was able to catch up on more spring cleanup after seeing virtual clients and getting my own workouts taken care of – I saved my stretching for after bending over gardening. The purple hyacinth is from my garden, and I saw the pink and white ones while out on my walk.

I judge how good my day was based on how much I accomplished (it’s my farmer’s daughter mentality) and this was a good day! First, I figured out how trail a virtual client from my Peloton bike while doing a scenic ride with the bike’s volume muted. Then after my workouts I spent several hours in our front yard getting a huge project completed. My husband lent a hand for a couple of hours which was extremely helpful!

My morning started early with both Kim and me walking. After Kim wrapped up a couple of miles she moved inside to her spin bike while I continued walking. It was an absolutely gorgeous spring morning and the animals were out and about – I saw several bunnies and a fox. I also had one of those slow motioned tripping events where I fell forward for several steps after catching my toe on the uneven sidewalk yet somehow managed to stay upright.

After my debacle in my quest to earn the Garmin 40K cycling badge (see opening paragraphs), I went upstairs to find breakfast made by my sweet husband already on the table. Once I was ready to step into the shower I realized that the water was cold. Ugh! I took off to teach my class a stinky mess and by the time I got home, my husband had called a plumber who was fixing the problem as I arrived home – we had scale build-up in our tankless hot water heater.
Saturday
Pilates: Peloton Emma Lovewell 5-Minute Core Strength
Walking: 1.04 miles

• Elevation gain: 60 feet

• Location: neighborhood circle
• Weather: 46° (feels like 40°) and sunny
• What I wore: capris, s/s shirt, puffer jacket, gloves, and visor
After a high-intensity week of workouts, I treated myself to a much-needed down day. It was the perfect chance to clear out my inbox and get ahead—I even finished prepping Easter baskets for my three little bunnies so they’re ready for next weekend! After church, my main goal was finishing dinner as quickly as possible so I could dive back into my current book. It’s a sci-fi novel, which is totally out of my usual genre, but I am absolutely hooked.
Garmin Badges Earned
Four Garmin badges made their way to me this week. The most surprising was the Appalachian Trial challenge that I’d signed up for several years ago and had totally forgotten about. Now that I’m wearing my Garmin 24/7 I finally completed those 3,500 kilometers (2,174.8 miles). The most hard earned was the cycling 40K badge. LOL
Last Week’s Blog Posts
In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…
Questions:
- • Have you accidentally hit save on your GPS watch before your workout was complete? ~ more than once
- • Are you seeing signs of spring? ~ yes, lots
- • Which workout did you enjoy most this past week? ~ My walk with Kim was super fun!
And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!
*********************************************************************
I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Be sure to check out not only the hosts’ posts, but those of the other great bloggers joining in on the fun!

Glad to hear you are feeling better. And I do know a few things about those slow motion trip/falls, lol. Also, the fast ones that happen on the trails.
Spring has been slow to pop here, but my trail run yesterday was filled with birds! Singing, dive bombing, and lots of mates flying together. This was definitely my favorite workout of the week.
Thanks, Wendy! Your trail run yesterday sounds like pure perfection!
It is crazy how we are in full on bloom now all of the sudden. I must now why you switch between the 2 bikes?? Yes, I have pressed save on my Garmin before I meant to and also messed it up in so many other ways. I don’t really keep track on there anymore since I am not running
The blooms seemed to pop overnight!
It’s easier if I text you a picture of why I switch bikes. 😉
I could fill a book with Garmin fails! I admire your tenacity to make sure you got that badge.
I love hyacinth and notice so many on my run this morning.
Guess what? I ended up riding 28 miles this morning so it would have counted toward the badge anyway. LOL Oh well!
My purple hyacinths were transplants from a pot of three I bought last Easter from the grocery store. I just bought white and pink ones to add to the garden after they stop blooming inside.
Yay for feeling somewhat better! I love all the Garmin badges. I always forget to look for those!! They’re so fun and it’s nice to try to achieve them.
Thanks, Melissa!
It’s been a while since I’ve had a Garmin issue like that, but I’ve definitely done it. Glad it didn’t happen when you were at 24 miles… hopefully you wouldn’t have felt the need to start all over again, lol, but you never know.
I’m curious to know what the sci fin novel is you’re enjoying so much!!!
Oh gosh, I would have cried if it had happened at 24 miles. No, on second thought I would have just changed it to 25 miles in Garmin Connect and subtracted a mile from the previous ride.
My husband read Project Hail Mary last week and said he wants to go see the movie so I decided to read it before going. I’m really surprised I’m enjoying it so much!
That Garmin mishap turning into 33 miles… I can relate!! Respect! That badge was earned.
Your week really had everything again though. Solid workouts, garden productivity, wildlife sightings, near face-plant saves and a cold shower situation to top it off. Garmin should have badges for slow-motion trip recoveries! Nicely saved!
Thanks, Catrina! And guess what? As you’ll see on Strava, I ended up riding 28 miles this morning so it would have counted toward that weekend badge anyway. LOL
Last year I finished a completely challenging group ride and I got distracted. I was so exhausted (and distracted by trying to talk to someone) that I scrolled down and hit DELETE on my workout after my ride. It’s so silly but I felt crushed by the accident!! Luckily my husband just added me to his workout on Strava but still, what a dumb thing for me to do!!
Interesting on the cold water issue. That’s never a good way to find out! But hopefully it was an easy (and not too costly) fix!
I totally understand how crushed you must have felt after accidentally deleting a tough ride like that. I would have been, too. It’s good that your husband was on that ride and could add you on Strava.
Well, you know I’ve had my fair share of Garmin mishaps (I blame no non-tech brain). Thankfully, I have figured out a few ways to edit the workouts (on Garmin Connect), so I don’t’ panic as much anymore. yay for all those Friday biking miles!
I would never have known that you can edit rides in Garmin Connect if you hadn’t told about it when I had my old Garmin and it didn’t have an indoor bike setting. Sooo your brain isn’t too non-techy. 😉
Ok, now I want to know what book!!!!
Any water heater issues are just devastating! I NEED scalding hot showers. NEEEEEEED!
That’s some dedication to getting that 40KM badge! Well done!
The book I mentioned was Project Hail Mary. My husband read it and wanted me to go see the movie with him so I decided to read it first.
I prefer lukewarm water for my shower, but can’t handle cold water so I was thankful my husband was able to get a plumber out so quickly.
Patiently waiting for spring… only sign so far is no snow. LOL
Favorite workout was my long run on Saturday though it wasn’t that long… tired legs!!
Glad you hear that you are feeling better.
No snow is a great start! 😉
