A Little Bit of Everything
This week truly had a little bit of everything. We started off with Pablo still visiting – he was the perfect supervisor while I tackled some much-needed garden cleanup. He absolutely loved lounging in the yard with me, though it’s a shame dogs don’t have opposable thumbs, or I definitely would have put him to work! Between the yard work and checking off some long-overdue errands, I even caught a glimpse of some spectacular clouds on my Monday commute. Unfortunately, the week took a bit of a turn when I caught my husband’s cold. As they say, some things are definitely better than others! 😉
Overview of the Week
Before getting into each day’s workouts, here’s an overview of my workouts from this past week. Scroll beyond the infographic for daily details…
Sunday
Cycling: 25 miles
• Bike: Life Fitness Lifecycle GX Spin
• Average speed: 15.9 MPH
• Surface: N/A
• Elevation gain: N/A
• Start time: 9:29 AM
• Location: basement
• Weather: 65° in the basement, 46° (feels like 39°) and cloudy outside
• What I wore: bike shorts and sports bra
Stretching: Peloton Denis Morton 5-Minute Post-Ride Stretch
Gardening: 5 hours
After falling behind on my gardening goals the day before, Saturday evening I sat down and made a must-do list for Sunday—my final day of spring break. I’ve always been a list person, but the relaxation of the stayacation had momentarily distracted me. My day was packed from a 6 AM wake-up: I headed to 7:30 AM mass, squeezed in time on my spin bike, and was in the garden by noon. For five focused hours, I stuck strictly to the timeline and made incredible progress. I even managed to cut back all of the liriope and clear out the winter leaves from the foundation plants—both jobs I hadn’t even planned on tackling!
Monday
Strength training: 1 hour of total body
Pilates: Peloton Emma Lovewell 10-Minute Core Strength
With just a few minutes left in a client session at the 55+ community gym, every phone in the room erupted with a TORNADO WARNING! I scrambled to my car—a risky move, I know—for the 12-minute drive home. As I drove, I was mesmerized and unnerved by the sky: dark aegean to the west and a lighter sky to the north and south with dark ‘stalactite’ edges jutting downward. Just as I pulled into our cul-de-sac, my neighbor pointed upward; I looked up to see a funnel shaped cloud in the distance, which dissipated just as I snapped a photo. I ducked into the garage just as the torrential rain hit, and we spent the rest of the morning in the basement just to be safe.
Meanwhile at the farm on the western side of Virginia…
Because of the dire weather forecast (which turned out to be far worse than reality leaving local meteorologists quite embarrassed), Pablo and his fam decided not to drive home to North Carolina until early the following morning so we got an extra evening of snuggles!
Tuesday
Walking: 5.05 miles
• Average pace: 15:29 minute/mile
• Elevation gain: 170 feet
• Start time: 12:56 PM
• Location: neighborhood trails
• Weather: 36° (feels like 20°) and cloudy with a short snow squall followed by the sun
• What I wore: fleece lined tights, l/s base layer shirt, down jacket, and knit hat
Pilates: Peloton Emma Lovewell 10-Minute Core Strength
Reminding me that it is indeed still March, Mother Nature threw a little bit of everything my way during my walk. I started under a dreary cloudy sky before snow started swirling around my head. But wait, the weather wasn’t finished teasing me and suddenly sunshine appeared to guide me home.
Wednesday
Strength training: 1 hour of total body
Pilates: Peloton Emma Lovewell 10-Minute Core Strength
Walking: 4.07 miles
• Average pace: 14:41 minute/mile
• Elevation gain: 207 feet
• Start time: 2:08 PM
• Location: neighborhood trails
• Weather: 39° (feels like 35°) and sunny
• What I wore: capris, s/s shirt, fleece jacket, and visor
After work and errands, I headed out for a walk. The weather was delightful albeit rather cool. I walked by our old neighborhood just over a mile away to check out some landscaping I’d done in our front yard some 30 years ago. Sure enough, that particular aspect hadn’t changed and I was able to better visualize something I want to change at our current home.
Thursday
Cycling: 12 miles
• Bike: Life Fitness Lifecycle GX Spin
• Average speed: 15.4 MPH
• Surface: N/A
• Elevation gain: N/A
• Start time: 8:16 AM
• Location: basement
• Weather: 66° in the basement, 36° (feels like 29°) and cloudy outside
• What I wore: bike shorts and sports bra
Pilates: Peloton Emma Lovewell 10-Minute Core Strength
Walking: 3.33 miles
• Average pace: 15:05 minute/mile
• Elevation gain: 121 feet
• Start time: 2:22 PM
• Location: neighborhood trails
• Weather: 54° and mostly cloudy, climbing to 57° and mostly sunny
• What I wore: capris, s/s shirt, fleece jacket, and visor (took jacket off a mile in)
Before going to bed the night before, I’d begged out of my workout with Kim because I felt like I was coming down with a bad cold – my husband was just getting over one. I ended up sleeping two hours later than usual and did an easy spin while virtually training a client whom I had switched from in-person to virtual when I started feeling sick. Later in the day I got outside in the beautiful weather for an easy walk.
Friday
Strength training: 1 hour of total body
Walking: 3.05 miles
• Average pace: 15:24 minute/mile
• Elevation gain: 123 feet
• Start time: 8:19 AM
• Location: neighborhood circle
• Weather: 39° and sunny, climbing to 45°
• What I wore: capris, s/s shirt, down jacket, knit hat, and gloves (took gloves off half way through)
Pilates: Peloton Emma Lovewell 15-Minute Core Strength
Thanks to my nasty head cold, I had to to cancel in-person sessions so that meant not teaching my balance and stretching class. It’s interesting, pre-Covid I wouldn’t have thought twice about working with a cold, but since Covid I think we’ve all become very sensitive to exposing others to any kind of virus, even a simple cold. Now though, especially with older clients, I take no chances!
Saturday
Pilates: Peloton Emma Lovewell 5-Minute Full Body Stretch
After a rough start to my morning and barely getting off the sofa, I started feeling better by mid-afternoon! My husband and I took an easy untimed walk to the park and back, and just before bedtime I stretched, but that was about it as far as working out.

It has been a wild weather ride so far this spring! Glad you avoided the tornado. We hit 70 yesterday, and I woke up to wind and plunging temperatures. It’s crazy!
My favorite run of the week? All 3 of them! 2 were on the mountains in California; yesterday’s was at home in 45F temps, but it was much needed to clear my head! Mission accomplished.
Pablo is so adorable! I’m so surprised you don’t have a dog of your own!
Your runs in the California mountains sound so refreshing! Do you see many other runners out?
We travel too much to have a dog of our own. I just wish Pablo lived closer!
Wow I’m glad you guys were okay and avoided having a tornado! How scary. We had snow here on Monday and Tuesday and 60° today! And back in the 30s tomorrow. I prefer the 60s 🙂
Thanks, Melissa! Our temps have been all over the place, too. It got up to 80° on Sunday and today’s high is supposed to be around 50°.
You did get some wicked clouds on Monday! For us the worst storms came through at night.
How fun to be able to check on your long-ago landscaping work!
I am definitely more annoyed when people come to work sick — especially now when just about everyone at my office CAN work at home if they need to.
We had a really bad storm on Friday evening as well. There was a lightning strike at Point of Rocks that had everyone here in Loudoun talking on Saturday morning – I saw some weather sites calling it a superbolt.
Times have certainly changed with many people being able to work from home these days.
The weather folks really did over hype that whole storm quite a bit. They sure had everyone in a panic!! I see you are back on your other spin bike? Do you still like your Peloton? Nice to have Pablo and the ids for an extra day I bet!
Yes, I still love my Peloton bike! It’s just much easier to multitask on my other spin bike. I hate just sitting and reading blogs on Sunday mornings at my desk when I could be doing a steady spin. This morning, though, I realized I could do one of the scenic rides with the volume down while training a virtual client. It worked out well!
Pablo as garden supervisor is the best! Excellent moral support, zero contribution
That Sunday sounds like one of those deeply satisfying, get-it-done days. Five hours in the garden after a spin session is a lot!
March really did serve you a little bit of everything, including snow, sunshine, tornado warnings and a head cold – at least it wasn’t boring, ha!
Yes, Pablo was a great supervisor – not once did he tell me to pick up the pace! LOL
What is up with the weather of 2026? It’s been quite temperamental ever since the ball dropped on NYE. Wow, tornadoes! We haven’t seen any of them yet, but ‘tis the season, LOL. Nice work with all that garden cleanup! I Noticed my small patch, under my kitchen window, needs some attention…
It has been a pretty crazy year weather wise. I do prefer boring. LOL
Ugh, colds can be really miserable. I think everyone is more sensitive about spreading viruses these days. Glad you’re feeling better.
What is up with this crazy weather??? Florida has been pretty calm compared to everyone else. Well, at least you got an extra night of Pablo.
Nice job on the yardwork! You are discliplined- but sometimes that’s the only way to get things done.
Thanks, Jenny!
Disciplined or stubborn, not sure which describes me better. 😉
Glad you are feeling a bit better. Surprisingly I have not caught a cold from all of my traveling. My husband was feeling a bit run down for a few days but otherwise things were fine (knock on wood!). It’s very satisfying to get yard work done. Hopefully I will start mine soon. There’s a bit to clean up in my yard.
Those are spooky looking storm clouds!
Thanks so much, Lisa! It’s great that you were able to stay healthy during your recent travels and didn’t catch anything from your husband.
How scary about the tornado, I’m glad it turned into something else.
You’re so thoughtful about not seeing people in-person while being sick, that makes me happy! I’ve been surprised about how careless people still are about these things, even after Covid. I was naive and expected that people would have learned to be more careful and stay home more while having respiratory infections after Covid, but that has (mostly) not been the case, at least here. My husband is coming down with something as we speak… so annoying. I hope you feel better soon! Nice work in the garden!
Thanks, Susanne! Hope your husband is feeling better.
You cannot drive in tornadoes!!!!!!! i’m freaking out for you!!!!
We had some warnings and watches, but fortunately, no funnels. That’s nothing to mess around with!
Extra Pablo time isn’t a bad thing, though, so I’m glad you had that.
Hope you’re back to 100% soon!
I rationalized that we rarely get tornadoes here so the odds were with me that I’d be safe for the short drive home. 😉 And yes, we didn’t complain about the extra time with Pablo and the kids.
And thanks, I’m feeling much better!
