Introducing Adventure Powered by Deb
If you missed Friday’s post, you missed the launch of Adventure Powered by Deb and the story behind the name change. While the old URL, https://debruns.com, will redirect you to the new site until April 2026, I encourage you to update your bookmark to the permanent address right away: https://adventurepoweredbydeb.com.
You’ll see very little change on my weekly rundowns and my focus on other posts will continue to go in the direction of late. More focus on travel, hiking, and cycling; less focus on running.
Overview of the Week
Before getting into each day’s workouts, here’s an overview of my workouts from this past week. Scroll beyond the infographic for daily details…
Sunday
Walking: 4.12 miles
• Average pace: 17:01 minute/mile
• Elevation gain: 147 feet
• Start time: 10:11 AM
• Location: neighborhood trails
• Weather: 71° and sunny, climbing to 75°
• What I wore: shorts, s/s shirt, and visor
Cycling: 20 miles
• Bike: Life Fitness Lifecycle GX Spin
• Average speed: 15.1 MPH
• Surface: N/A
• Elevation gain: N/A
• Start time: 8:21 PM
• Location: basement
• Weather: 69° in the basement, 70° and mostly cloudy outside
• What I wore: bike shorts and sports bra
While walking to my car after 7:30 mass, a yellowjacket flew down in my shoe and stung me twice on the side of my foot, and boy did that hurt! Luckily, it didn’t bother me too much during my walk and spin, but throbbed whenever I turned onto it while sleeping. By morning the pain was gone and it had reached the itchy stage. My walk earned me the Garmin September Weekend 5K badge.
Monday
Strength training: 1 hour of total body
Walking: 3.03 miles
• Average pace: 15:40 minute/mile
• Elevation gain: 142 feet
• Start time: 12:14 PM
• Location: neighborhood circle
• Weather: 77° and cloudy
• What I wore: shorts, s/s shirt, and visor
This was one of those days when I had time to go out a little earlier, but didn’t and wished I had. The humidity was surprisingly high and I would have been much more comfortable walking in 10° cooler temps.
Tuesday
Cycling: 45 miles
• Bike: Life Fitness Lifecycle GX Spin
• Average speed: 15.5 MPH
• Surface: N/A
• Elevation gain: N/A
• Start time: 5:56 AM
• Location: basement
• Weather: 66° in the basement, 65° and drizzly outside
• What I wore: bike shorts and sports bra
Walking: 2.03 miles
• Average pace: 15:18 minute/mile
• Elevation gain: 95 feet
• Start time: 12:08 PM
• Location: neighborhood circle
• Weather: 72° and cloudy
• What I wore: shorts, s/s shirt, and visor
My husband and I had planned to ride outside later in the morning, but when I awoke to rain, I quickly changed into biking shorts so I could multitask on my spin bike while training a client. When it continued to drizzle, I stayed on my bike, giving up on riding outside. The unfortunate thing is that each time we’ve gotten rain recently, it’s only shown up as a “trace amount” in the rain totals.
Wednesday
Strength training: 1 hour of total body
Thursday
Cycling: 35 miles
• Bike: Life Fitness Lifecycle GX Spin
• Average speed: 15.4 MPH
• Surface: N/A
• Elevation gain: N/A
• Start time: 5:59 AM
• Location: basement
• Weather: 65° in the basement, 47° and clear outside
• What I wore: bike shorts and sports bra
Walking: 4.09 miles
• Average pace: 15:29 minute/mile
• Elevation gain: 231 feet
• Start time: 11:52 AM
• Location: neighborhood trails
• Weather: 67° and cloudy
• What I wore: shorts, s/s shirt, and visor
I awoke to a nippy morning and didn’t mind having to stay inside on my spin bike while chatting virtually with Kim – I needed to be home between 7 and 11 AM for my irrigation guy to winterize our system. Later when the temps had climbed by 20°, I enjoyed perfect weather for a walk and couldn’t resist taking a picture as I walked by the pond.
Friday
Strength training: 1 hour of total body
Balance and stretching: 45 minutes
Saturday
Cycling: 40 miles
• Bike: Life Fitness Lifecycle GX Spin
• Average speed: 15.6 MPH
• Surface: N/A
• Elevation gain: N/A
• Start time: 6:49 AM
• Location: basement
• Weather: 65° in the basement, 47° and mostly clear outside
• What I wore: bike shorts and sports bra
What a busy day! I stayed inside on my bike because I needed to be at the 55+ gym later in the morning to teach a 2-hour fitness orientation class and I didn’t feel like pulling out my winter gear to ride outside in the 40’s (and didn’t have the option to wait to ride later). After class I ran to Trader Joes and then did a little bit of gardening before getting my hair cut. I wrapped up the day up by going to Saturday evening mass.
Last Week’s Blog Posts
In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past weeks, here’s what you missed…
- • Sunday – Weekly RunDown: September 21 – 27 / Back on Track
- • Tuesday – Hiking at Tony Grove Lake, an Alpine Treasure
- • Friday – Catching Up Over Coffee: Goodbye Deb Runs, Hello Adventure Powered by Deb
Questions:
- • How often do you get your hair cut? ~ My poor hairdresser – I told him he’d go broke if all of his clients were like me. I usually get my hair cut about three to four times per year and get highlights twice per year. I used to only get it done twice a year, but now that I’m wearing it shorter I need to have it cut more often.
- • Have you indulged in any pumpkin flavored foods yet? ~ I’m not huge on pumpkin flavored foods or drinks other than breads/muffins and purchased a pumpkin bread mix at TJ’s.
- • Which workout did you enjoy most this past week? ~ I really enjoyed catching up with Kim. The time flew by!
And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!

Yay! It looks like I can post on your blog again! (I sent a test post that you can delete.) Love the new site and the rebranding makes sense to me!
To answer your questions, I’m not a fan of pumpkin spice or pumpkin flavored things. I suppose it’s unpatriotic, lol! My favorite workout of the week was last Sunday’s trail hike with my hubs.
That’s awesome, Wendy! I wonder what was up before that you couldn’t comment, and could have changing my URL have had something to do with you now being able to comment?
I’m so happy your husband wanted to join you for a hike. Sounds fun!
You had temps down into the 40s overnight? That’s nippy! Sounds like you had a busy and fun week- except for that yellowjacket sting (OUCH! I know how much that hurts.)
To answer your question- I’ve been making pumpkin oatmeal and putting some pumpkin spice creamer in my tea. As you know I love pumpkin season!
Yes, the 40’s feel very chilly this time of year.
Enjoy pumpkin season!
I applaud your long indoor bike rides-I get way too bored indoors for that kind of mileage. I’m religious about my hair appointments! I go every 7-8 weeks for cut and color and schedule my next one as I leave to be sure I get on his schedule.
Thanks, Deborah!
I’m like that with my appointment with my esthetician (every 5 weeks for eyebrow and eyelash tint) and make my appointment when I leave to make sure I don’t miss a week or two by her being too booked.
Congrats again on launching “Adventure Powered by Deb!” It really suits you well.
I’m always impressed by how you multitask on the bike, time must just fly that way. That yellowjacket sting sounded awful, but at least you got a Garmin badge out of it.
And to answer your question: I haven’t been to the hairdresser since 2021… clearly, our hairstylists would go BROKE!!
Thanks again, Catrina! LOL on both our hairdressers going broke.
As mentioned before, your new blog layout is great! I think I told you I was tempted to cut my bangs myself, last week, 10 days ago), and I did. It’s been awhile since taking matters into my own hands, so to speak, but they were driving me crazy (and I used to trim them myself in the past, so it wasn’t the least bit scary, LOL). Otherwise, I go to my gal every 8-9 weeks. She’s hard to get an appointment with, so I have to schedule each subsequent appointment as I’m leaving the previous one. Hmmm, favorite workout? It probably was the upper-body session on Wednesday morning…major burn!!!! But, I had a lot of other great workouts as well 😉
Thanks again, Kim.
Glad your bangs trim turned out well. I used to trim my bangs back in the day and my hairdresser never fired me for doing so. LOL
Good week of activity! OMG, the yellowjacket stings must have hurt a lot! I had to do some reading about them, I thought it was just an American word for wasp but learned they’re two different insects. Always interesting for a creepy-crawly enthusiast like me!
I’ve given up on hairdressers. I have difficult hair and after many ifs and buts I found a good hairdresser before the pandemic who was really good with it but she moved away. She is somewhere outside of town now and I think it could still be possible to book with her but I know it will be too much of a project so I’ve tried a few other hairdressers and none of them seems interested in helping me getting the type of haircut that I want, they say my hair is too thin, and instead of giving it any shape, they just basically chop off the ends and that’s it! So now I’ve decided to let it be, grow it out, braid it and curl it when I need to. Perhaps later I’ll try seeing a hairdresser again (maybe that lady from before the pandemic) but right now I’m too annoyed about it.
Yes, yellowjacket stings are quite painful and they can sting multiple times. 🙁
I do love the option of wearing my hair in a ponytail if I choose to wear it longer. I think you should definitely chase down your pre-pandemic hairdresser when you’re ready to get your hair cut again, especially if she didn’t move too far away.
I absolutely love the rebrand and it’s going to be so great for you! And for us for reading!
I’m not a pumpkin person. I wish I was, but it’s not for me. More for everyone else, right?
I get my hair done every few months. My husband is actually in the barber’s chair every three weeks. I can get away with twisting it up in a messy bun, but he is far more particular.
Thanks so much, Jenn!
I think the shorter you wear your hair, the more often it needs to be trimmed so I understand your husband’s perspective.
I just read up about the name change on the blog – LOVE IT! And hey, love the US parks map Hair chat… I try to drag out the time between my appointments to 12-13 weeks. I only get partial highlights and I think it’s so expensive! I don’t even get it cut at the salon! (ok, maybe it shows haha!). I’ve always been the hair cutter in the family and now my daughter cuts my hair. Easy peasy since it’s just a straight cut. However, my hair is really over bleached and breaks off on the ends. I haven’t been able to take the plunge yet and cut off as much as I should cut off to make it healthier because I really like it longer.
Thanks, Lisa! And I hear you on getting hair cuts less often when it’s longer.
