Join me by pulling up a chair and pouring yourself a cup of coffee. As always, though, I’m sticking to water since I don’t care for coffee or tea. Let’s take a break and talk about more than just fitness related topics. Sound like a plan? I’ll kick us off..
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that…..
September was all about adjusting my routine. Not only did I spend almost a week at the farm which kept me away from my bike, but while recovering from minor skin cancer surgery, I had to keep my outdoor cycling to a minimum – I only managed two rides all month. This made me incredibly grateful for my indoor spin bike, which kept me moving.
I compensated for the lack of miles on the road by walking more than usual and even squeezing in a short hike. I also had to temporarily shorten my weight training sessions as part of my recovery. It wasn’t the plan, but it was a good reminder that fitness is all about adapting to whatever life throws at you.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that…..
When I first launched this blog in January 2013, my dream was simple: to run forever. But life has a funny way of rerouting your goals. When a back injury handed me a major challenge, I decided to squeeze that lemon and make a whole new Deb. I happily traded my running shoes for cycling shoes and hiking boots, and I didn’t miss a beat – or a mile – in keeping my fitness going.
In fact, the transition led to a life that was even more adventurous. This new chapter is what brought me to my next exciting announcement!
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that…..
Deb Runs has officially morphed into Adventure Powered by Deb!
Welcome to the new look and the whole new focus of the blog. While I can’t completely walk away from the sport I love, and will still share content and coaching tips on running, the primary focus now is adventure. You can expect more posts dedicated to my passion for hiking, cycling, and actively exploring new-to-me places.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that…..
You can still access the blog through the old URL which will redirect you until April 2026. However, the new and permanent address, https://adventurepoweredbydeb.com, is active now. I encourage you to switch to the new link right away.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that…..
It took the incredible scenery of Glacier National Park to spark a big change back home. While browsing the visitor center, I had the clear thought that my focus has completely shifted from chasing finish lines to chasing horizons. It was time for my gym display to evolve from marathon medals to a celebration of our national parks journeys.
Once back, I got to work: the medals came down, and I ordered this fantastic wooden map to track every national park we’ve explored. The new display is officially up, and I can’t wait to see it fill up with all the adventures ahead!
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that…..
Before the launch of Adventure Powered by Deb, this is what the blog looked like. Check out the contrast with the new focus!
- Questions:
- • Do you like the new look of my blog? What about the name?
- • If you’re a runner, do you have your race medals displayed or tucked away somewhere? ~ I never thought I’d want to take ours off the wall, but now that I can no longer run/race, it’s time for a new chapter! BTW, in the picture the top row of medals belongs to my husband.
- • If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?

I love the new look – no surprise since I’ve loved all your FB photos of late. I wondered what was afoot when I saw the like from Adventure… about your wreaths. And you know I love the new gym look. I gave away most of my medals unil a friend was horrified that I had my marathon medal on a 3M Command Strip hook and bought be a hanger. I have become a medal keeper. Best of luck on this adventure, pun absolutely intended 😀
Thanks so much, Cari! I enjoy sharing our mutual love of our national parks with you!
Your story about your friend being horrified that you didn’t have a respectable place to hang your marathon medal is funny, and I love that she gave you an appropriate medal hanger.
I love your new url and focus! Very relevant when you don’t run anymore. I’m really enjoying your hiking posts lately! Do you redirect your RSS feed in some way? I added your new url to my feed reader and it still shows up as Deb runs! It doesn’t really matter to me but I just noticed!
I think your medals deserve a good place since they’re something you should be proud of, but not necessarily on a wall. We keep my husband’s running bling on the wall in the gym but they all hang on the same hook and we should put them somewhere prettier.
Thanks so much, Susanne! Even though I did most of the redesign myself, my husband had to help me with the new URL and redirection of the old one. He just checked and said the RSS has been redirected and that maybe you just need to clear your cache.
Right now my medals are very neatly organized in Ziplock bags in a closet in the gym. I kept out my two Boston medals, though, and hung them over the top of my framed Boston poster.
CONGRATULATIONS on your blog’s new chapter, Debbie!
“Adventure Powered by Deb” is such a perfect name for the direction you’re taking.
I love your idea of swapping medals for a national parks map. It’s such a cute map, too. I’m sure you will get all those little pines turn green very soon.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that your rebrand makes me think about my own blog title “Keep on running”. Perhaps one day I will need to rebrand as well!
Thanks so much, Catrina! It’s been a fun transition from running to other types of adventure – certainly not something I expected.
I think you’re a long way from needing to rebrand. I think of you as having Jeannie Rice type longevity.
I love the new look and the new focus! You know life is all about adapting and rolling with the changes. I’ve been running much less recently as well and it’s okay. I am also feeling more adventurous in a way the last few years and also love to write about our travels.
Thanks, Deborah! And BTW, your travels have been epic!
I love the new look and name of the blog! That’s the amazing thing about life- we don’t get to have just one story. We can decide at any time to pivot and start a whole new one. Here’s to lots of adventures ahead!
Thanks so much, Jenny!
I think the now look (of the blog & the “wall”) is a fantastic change! I have not found an appropriate place to display all my hardware in my new place. All the new stuff (post-relocation) are in a basket, but not displayed. Still a work in progress….
Thanks, Kim!
Congrats on the new blog look and focus! Love that you’ve adapted and continue to find new adventures to lean into.
Thank you, Michelle!
I LOVE IT!
What a fantastic way to transition to this incredible next chapter! How exciting!
I am so grateful to get to be a part of this journey and can’t wait to see where you’re off to next!
Thanks so much, Jenn!
Aww, I’m excited for you! :] I love adventure/hiking so I’m definitely looking forward to seeing where this goes! 😀 Glacier NP has been on my list for forever and I’m hoping to get to go see it sometime soon! I love your national park board! <3
Thanks, Farrah! We’re adding two more evergreen trees to our national parks map this week! 🙂
