It’s time to sit down once again with a beverage of your choice and chat – I’ll remind you that I don’t like coffee or tea so my drink of choice today will be water. Let’s chat about things other than just running, cycling, strength training, yoga, and our most recent injuries. Sound good? I’ll go first…
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that August turned out to be a good month in the fitness department for me. Cycling came in strong at 699 miles, walking showed a consistent three walks per week, and strength training had to be modified to shorter sessions of core and lower body only later in the month after two minor surgeries to remove two skin cancers.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I’m ready for a new chapter and hope to have a big reveal just in time for our next coffee date. In the meantime, stay tuned on my Instagram for updates on what I’m putting in my newly created empty space.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that painful feet seemed to be the theme of the evening at our niece’s wedding on Saturday. Even though the heels on my shoes were relatively low, my toes didn’t like being squished into the pointy tips. Once I saw that the bride had changed to sneakers, the groom’s mom had on hightop sneakers (she’d broken her foot at a previous wedding and can no long wear heels), and many other women had ditched their shoes completely, I sneaked up to our room after dinner and slipped into my pink Crocs. I’ve never gotten so many complements on my choice of footwear and my feet have never appreciated me more!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I recently offered to divide and repot the bromeliad of a client if he’d give me one of the five pups that had grown next to its base. One day he showed up with the original plant, a bag of potting soil, and four additional pots. My client was thrilled with the results and I got to adopt a new plant!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I thought it would be fun to share a few weird and fun facts about myself:
- • I have two different colored eyes, in fact my left eye is two different colors. My right eye is a blueish gray, but my left eye is that blueish gray on top and brown and green mixed on the bottom. It’s called sectoral heterochromia when one eye’s iris has two or more different colors.
- • I sneeze twice every time I eat a muffin, usually after the very first bite.
- • I am left handed and constantly get my left and right sides mixed up. In fact, when I was little, my mom used to say, “Your other left hand, Debbie.”
- Questions:
- • Tell me a fun or weird fact about yourself!
- • If you’re a runner, do you have your race medals displayed or tucked away somewhere? ~ I never thought I’d want to take ours off the wall, but now that I can no longer run/race, it’s time for a new chapter! BTW, in the picture the top row of medals belongs to my husband.
- • If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?

Your August sounds amazing! Cycling nearly 700 miles while navigating minor surgeries is impressive.
So now I’m wondering about the empty wall space! Are you thinking of hanging up a bike-riding photo?
I don’t hold on to most medals – I usually keep a few special ones on the cellar door for a while and then let them go. Right now, I’ve only got about five hanging there, including the Boston medal I recently earned.
Are you planning to display your medals in a new way now, or are they retiring entirely?
Good guesses on the empty wall space, but you’ll have to stay tuned to see what I do!
Our medals are now tucked away in a closet, but I might donate some of them to one of the local charities that recycles them to programs similar to the Special Olympics.
My feet do not love to wear heels either and I only do when I go to events. Can’t wait to see what you do with your gym decor. I could use some updates n mine. Nice work on your cycling. Miles!!
Thanks, Deborah!
LOL on the shoe switcheroo. I’m debating what to pack for my conference. This one is in my hotel so not too much walking, but I have noticed more women wearing flats/sneakers at these events.
I’m a lefty too!
I’d forgotten that you’re left handed!
I think I would have to wear Crocs for the ENTIRE wedding- my feet couldn’t handle two minutes in heels at this point.
So what is this- you sneeze twice every time you eat a muffin??? That’s different! I’ve heard of people having two different eye colors, but not two different colors in one eye! You are getting more and more unique here! And… I do know it’s a thing, some people have trouble telling left from right. I wonder if it’s more of a left handed thing? I”ll have to ask my son- he’s a lefty!
Oh my goodness, my feet were sooo happy when I switched into my Crocs, especially my right foot. It was not at all happy in those other shoes.
Yes, let me know what your son says!
I totally forgot to ask about the new wall decor mystery yesterday. I’m eager to see what transpires. I had an elaborate medal display in my other house, but don’t really a place on my new house. I need to paint my “home office,” so that might be a future home for all the hardware. All my recent medals are clumped in a basket right now…
I’ll tell you on Thursday what I’m planning on putting in the newly empty wall space. Which room are you going to make into your home office? One of the spare bedrooms?
I love that about your eyes!
I’m excited to see how your next chapter goes! I’m sure it’s hard leaving a love behind but embracing new one is always exciting.
I confess that when I saw “pups” in your title, I was kind of hoping for dogs…. That was disappointing lol!
One thing I love to see is that at all the dances (in some cases even prom) the girls wear trainers with their fancy dresses! They aren’t messing around with their feet and I think it’s awesome!
An interesting thing? I guess that I’m a legit speed-reader. I have this thing where I can look at the words on a page and sort of absorb them all at once vs reading them one by one consecutively.
Honestly, leaving running behind has been much easier than I ever imagined. It’s been quite surprising actually.
LOL on your short excitement over the word pups in my title. Sorry to disappoint! 😉
Wow on you being a speed reader! I am one of those who has to read every word to comprehend.
Congrats on all the bike miles. So impressive. We went to a few formal events over the past several months and yes, I am no longer a fan of ridiculous shoes. Bring on the crocs and sneakers and let’s call it good! My race medals are all still up (well some of them were never put up so those were donated). If I had another idea for those walls in the pain cave I likely would not hesitate to take them down. On to a new era!
Thanks, Marcia!
you’ve got some great stats for August! Im hoping my September will be more active than August was. Oh and about your shoes… I went to a Gala in July in London. I was so stressed about shoes because I simply cannot wear dress shoes! then I remembered something I did in my early 20’s; I dressed up some black patent trainers with silk bows as shoelaces! So I headed over to the barefoot store, bought a pair of super comfy shoes and put red silk laces in them! And you know what? No one batted a single eyelid! Gosh why should we suffer when there are cute shoelaces to be worn!
ok so fun/ weird fact about me: I desperately wanted to play an instrument when I was young and didn’t care what it was. Orchestra was an option before band was so I begged my mother to let me play the violin. She agreed and bought me a violin from the music shop that she paid off in a year (in like $10 payments per month). It could have been a total failure but it turns out I was actually good at it. Only thing is, I quit when I was 18. So dumb. I could have been in a rock band with that talent.
Medals: just rehung up half marathons and marathons; need to figure out a solution for the other medals! to be continued! I still want to have the up for now – not ready to fully give up on running.
I’d tell you over coffee I’m glad to be back to blogging and happy to see so many lovely and familiar and friendly faces x
What a great idea to dress up comfy trainers with red silk shoelaces!
That’s pretty cool that you played the violin, and well! Here’s my music story: After two years of playing the clarinet in 5th and 6th grade, the band director suggested I try out for sports in 7th grade rather than sticking with band. LOL
Your blogger friends are happy to have you back!
Bravo on all of your cycling miles!
I love that all of the women ditched their shoes at the wedding. My feet really don’t appreciate fancy footwear any more. I think your pink Crocs are cute 🙂
Thanks, Michelle!
