A collection of statements admitting
that one is guilty of a variety of running crimes…
It’s time to confess! I’m joining in on the fun to clear my conscience of all my recent running, cycling, fitness, and general life faux pas. I know I’ll feel much better once it’s all out in the open—and maybe, just maybe, I’ll give you a good laugh or two in the process!
I AI-fess: Everything is still bright green around here, and I didn’t have a picture of my yoga frog sitting in front of fall foliage (see picture above). So, I had Gemini swap out the liriope he usually poses in front of for some autumn mums! It even gave the trees in the background a nice splash of fall color.
I runfess: As if I needed another reason to dread the end of summer, colder weather means the return of the dreaded layering puzzle. I spend way too much time obsessively checking three different weather apps before an early morning walk or ride, overthinking every layer, only to strip off my jacket five minutes in because I completely misjudged the temperature anyway.
I beaniefess: When I first bought my slouch beanies to control my hair in the early morning humidity, I joked that I hoped nobody asked me for an oat milk latte—I thought I looked straight out of a hipster coffee shop! I also secretly worried people might think I was going through health issues. Sure enough, I bumped into a friend I hadn’t seen in a while, and with deep concern in her voice, she asked if I was okay.
I laundryfess: I bought Downy scent beads to combat our extra-stinky workout clothes, but with no clear guidance on the bottle, I went way too heavy-handed on the first try. Our gym gear came out so completely overpowered by a sweet, floral fragrance that I had to rewash the entire load! Now, I strictly use just a tiny pinch—maybe ten beads total—and everything comes out fresh with barely a hint of scent.
There you have it, my latest fessions, and you can bet that it feels great to get all of that off my chest! Unloading these always makes me feel lighter, and now that I’ve officially cleared my conscience, the floor is all yours.
- Questions:
- • What’s your go-to trick for freshening up stinky workout clothes? Do you have any favorite laundry hacks I should try? Although at my current rate of ten beads per load, I won’t actually need to restock for another decade!
- • Are you a master of layering for cool-weather workouts, or do you constantly find yourself shedding jackets five minutes in like I do?
- • What is your latest fitness fession?

Ah, the layering challenge! It’s so tricky. I always try to remind myself that 10 minutes into the run I’ll probably regret wearing too much, but those first few minutes can be SO cold!
I once put one of those flowery, smelly things in the gym cupboard and had exactly the same experience as you with the scent beads. For a few days, we were all running around smelling like roses!
I found layering for running much easier than for walking because I warmed up so much quicker when I ran. Also, I don’t get as warm walking so it’s definitely a guessing game for me.
Oh my, smelling like roses is just too much while out on a run! 😀
We used a laudromat during our kitchen and laundry room reno and the person who used the machine before me must’ve used a ton of those beads because our laundry was “perfumed” for weeks to come. Hilarious about the beanie. I have a niece and a neighbor boy who seem to wear theirs 24/7. I guess it’s a look? I don’t wanna ask! Ha!
Oh wow on the beads’ scent remaining in the laundry tub even after a rinse and then scenting your laundry, too. That’s some strong stuff right there.
Yes to the layering challenge! I’m always cold, but I do seem to warm-up quickly, so I’m forever second guessing every layer. My two apps are never, ever, in agreement, so that just adds to the confusion.
Right? Deciding on the perfect layer combination is so tricky, and the weather apps aren’t always very useful, especially with their forecasts.
I feel like I have to re-lean how to layer every year – so much trial and error LOL
And, good to know on those scented beads – you’ve saved me from testing them out!
Yes, to the layering dilemma every. single. year!
My husband was given a sample pack of those Downy beads at Costco, but unfortunately it was after I’d purchased and opened our bottle.
Oh the layering. It’s so hard! We’re not quite there yet, i still go out in gym shorts, tank top and some light long-sleeved top but is sure is colder. I’ve learned that at this time of the year slightly too light clothing is better than too much. In the winter it’s way different and I never really know how to dress.
Interesting about the scented beads! I have more problems AFTER the laundry machine because sometimes it gets so damp in here that the laundry gets smelly while hanging on the line (we only dry clothes inside).
Layering struggles are a real thing, and yes, it’s even more difficult once it gets really cold.
It must be quite frustrating to have your laundry get musty smelly immediately after being washed. 🙁
My mums are all very much deceased but I own that failure. Why is it so hard to keep them alive!
We have to use free&clear detergent, and sometimes i”ll throw vinegar in the wash or soak everything in vinegar first. That seems to help.
I’m usually great with a long sleeve on top. That I can take off and put on as needed. As long as I have gloves, I’m good to go.
I’ve opted not to buy mums for several years because deer love them. 🙁
One of my clients was just talking about Free & Clear detergent. I’ll have to check it out.
