A Wide Range of Workouts
This week’s workouts were plentiful and covered the whole gamut, from my usual walks, cycling, and strength training to a fun dose of functional training in the yard. I spent a good portion of two afternoons working in my garden and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Between the blooming dogwoods and locust trees, my outdoor walks have been spectacular lately—especially on Monday, when I had the delightful surprise of stumbling upon a tiny fairy and gnome village hidden not far from home!
Overview of the Week
Before getting into each day’s workouts, here’s an overview of my workouts from this past week. Scroll beyond the infographic for daily details…

Peloton Ally Love 5-Minute Post-Ride Stretch
At the end of 7:30 mass I decided I was hungry for pancakes (and no, they hadn’t announced it was pancake Sunday) so when I got home I made pancakes and scrambled eggs. As I’ve mentioned many times, I’m a first thing in the morning exerciser and I kept procrastinating until I finally made my way down to the basement to spin. Funny thing, though, I don’t mind going for walks anytime of the day so I fit my walk in when it made the most sense in my afternoon schedule. Dogwoods are blooming now and I loved seeing this one on the trail right behind our house.
Monday
Strength training: 1 hour of total body
Peloton Rebecca Kennedy 10-Minute Core Strength
Walking: 3.11 miles
• Average pace: 15:05 minute/mile
• Elevation gain: 178 feet
• Start time: 2:01 PM
• Location: neighborhood trails
• Weather: 52° (feels like 39°), partly cloudy, and windy
• What I wore: capris, s/s shirt, light puffer jacket, gloves, and visor (took gloves off after 2nd mile)
I didn’t have a chance to go for my walk until after seeing my last client, but I didn’t mind because it had been drizzling off and on during the morning. It was super windy and I had to hold onto my visor a few times to keep it from flying off of my head.
While out I stumbled upon a tiny gnome and fairy village in front of our HOA office. The little figures were about the size of my thumb and seemed to be of the mischievous type despite their sweet little faces.
Tuesday

• Bike: Peloton+
• Average speed: 14.1 MPH
• Surface: N/A
• Elevation gain: N/A
• Start time: 6:31 AM
• Location: basement
• Weather: 63° in the basement, 32° and sunny outside

Stretching: Peloton Ben Alldis 5-Minute Post-Ride Stretch
Gardening: 4 hours
After doing a Peloton scenic ride, I decided to hop on my other spin bike for a steady spin while multitasking on my laptop and before I knew it I’d ridden 22 miles, almost 33 total between the two bikes! These two rides added a nice little bump to my measly Great American Ride miles. Last year I led Dawn Patrol in total miles and this year I’m in last place. LOL In my defense, my fitness goals are different this year and I’m making sure to fit in those extremely important weight-bearing walks.
A little later in the morning I started another gardening project and as any good gardener knows, one thing leads to another and before you know it, you’ve been working for hours. I finish tired and happy!
Wednesday

Walking: 3.05 miles
• Average pace: 17:04 minute/mile
• Elevation gain: 90 feet

• Weather: 73° and partly cloudy
• What I wore: shorts, s/s shirt, and visor
Cycling: 6.11 miles (Peloton Sam Yo 30-Minute Earth Day Ride)
• Bike: Peloton+
• Average speed: 11.7 MPH
• Surface: N/A
• Elevation gain: N/A
• Start time: 6:43 PM
• Location: basement
• Weather: 68° in the basement, 69° and partly cloudy outside
• What I wore: bike shorts and sports bra
During my walk I came across locust blooms, smelling them even before seeing them. To me, they have the loveliest fragrance of any spring blossoms. I’d thought about getting out for a bike ride, but after my walk I needed to go to the grocery store. Eventually, though, I made time to get in a short Earth Day Peloton ride in the basement.

Wanting to get in some cycling miles for the Great American Ride, I hoped on my spin bike for the first half of my virtual cardio workout with Kim. After getting a few miles under my belt, I took it outside for a walk. Later I got back outside for some more gardening – gosh I love this time of year!

• Weather: 56° and cloudy
• What I wore: bike shorts, short sleeved jersey, light jacket, fingered gloves
It was a Dawn Patrol kind of day! Chuck, our good friend and founder of the group, was in town for a few days and we’d planned a reunion ride on the W&OD Trail followed by a barbecue back at my husband’s and my house. We had a great turnout for both and even more fun!
Garmin Badges Earned
Four Garmin badges made their way to me this week. I also earned the Peloton 100 Days badge even though I said I wasn’t going to get caught up in a streak…
Last Week’s Blog Posts
In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…
Questions:
- • What’s currently blooming in your neck of the woods? ~ dogwoods, locust, columbine, bleeding hearts, and dianthus
- • Are you doing any streaks? ~ I said I wasn’t going to, but I’ve gotten caught up in a Peloton streak.

That little gnome village is adorable and reminds me of the little flamingos and such that I find hiding in the trees in the woods. I love finding things like that!
Not a streaker here–although I did do that push-up challenge in February. I can’t pick a favorite workout–I loved my trail time–but seeing the owlets tops everything that happened this week!
Ah yes, you do find some fun little surprises during your runs in the preserve. And I agree, things like that bring a smile to my face when I see them, too.
Seeing baby owls would definitely top my list of favorites!
Is Chuck my friend from the trail? ; )
Sounds like you’re really making the most of spring. It seemed like you were walking more and more- so it’s because you wanted more weight bearing exercise? That makes sense.
That gnome and fairy village!!! When I was a kid I just loved little figures and worlds like that. I think my 60 year old self would still be fascinated.
Yes, Jenny, that’s your photo-bombing friend Chuck on the left in the picture!
My unofficial goal is to walk at least 15 miles per week. I know that strength training is very important for my bones as well, but now that I don’t run I really want to fit in more walks.
Nice week, especially all the cycling miles. I had the Garmin Ride to 100 badge on my mind, but just couldn’t swing it this week. I’d thought of finishing my remaining 22 miles (I think?) yesterday afternoon, but that was before the darn dandelions took up so much time and effort. I had to make my way to the couch after my shower, LOL.
Garmin should have a weeding badge! LOL
Daffodils are blooming. Tulips are on the way.
Never done a streak. I try to walk or run everyday.
My 10k though hard was my favorite. It was a good challenge
How fun that your race was your favorite workout of the week! And I know you’re loving seeing all the spring flowers finally blooming.
I love the dogwoods in our neighborhood. The blossoms are so pretty.
Looks like you had a great week with lots of time outside.
Yes, I’m lucky that I’m able to be outside as much as I am – part of the perks of being older and working fewer hours!
I love that you “accidentally” rode 33 miles again while multitasking! That seems to be becoming a theme! And your attitude about the Great American Ride is spot on. Goals change, and you’re clearly training with purpose, not just chasing numbers.
I loved seeing that gnome and fairy village on Strava! Absolutely adorable.
And that Dawn Patrol reunion ride sounds like the highlight. Good miles, good people, and a barbecue after… hard to beat that!
Our Dawn Patrol ride and barbecue were definitely the highlight of the week!
The competitiveness in me is coming out and I really need to suppress it, buuuut I just discovered that I’m within three miles of no longer being in last place in the Great American Ride so I might just chase a few miles this week. 😉
Everything is blooming. i’ve been sneezing nonstop for two weeks. It’s awful lol!
I love your dawn patrol. It must feel so good to just get up and ride with such great friends.
Just my regular one mile a day streak. I have to go in and catch up on my count.
Great week!
I do feel for those with allergies during the spring blooming season. Hope things clear up for you soon!
I don’t think I could accidentally ride 33 miles! But I have taken some treadmill bleed walks while working and ended a little longer than I anticipated because I was distracted. Multitasking and working out can be the best! I love the little gnomes you found. It’s so fun finding little trolls and trees around here. My kids love them!
The first almost 11 miles were part of a Peloton class so they were more focused, but I was reading blog posts on my laptop during the second ride and that’s where the miles got away from me. I do love being able to multitask!
I’m sure your children would love seeing the little gnome and fairy village!
That mini gnome village is so cute! You racked up the Garmin badges this week. Nice variety of workouts!
Thanks, Deborah!
