Join me by pulling up a chair and pouring yourself a cup of coffee. As always, though, I’m sticking to water since I don’t care for coffee or tea. Let’s take a break and try to talk about more than just fitness-related topics. Sound like a plan? I’ll kick us off…
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that…..
I spent a good chunk of February trading the cold and snowy Virginia ‘snowcrete’ for over two weeks in sunny Florida. It was such a gift to find warmer weather and—most importantly—ice-free trails! The trip gave me the perfect excuse to live outdoors, whether I was logging miles on my bike, walking in parks, or hiking through some stunning wetlands and bird sanctuaries. There’s nothing like a dose of Vitamin D to reset the system.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that…..
I finally hopped on the AI trend to see myself as a cartoon personal trainer! I gave ChatGPT a photo of Pablo and me from last fall and told it to get to work.
I asked for the work mode version: swap the sunglasses for my eyeglasses, trade the tee for a pink tank, and—most importantly—leave the pupster at home. ChatGPT clearly understood the assignment… and apparently gave me some “bonus” gains, making my arms and legs look more like they did in my 40s than now in my late 60s! 💪😂
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that…..
While in Florida, I had the chance to meet up with bloggers Darlene and Jenny for a scenic bird-watching walk! The birds were out in full force, and I’m honestly not sure who had more fun: the three of us catching up as we wandered through the wetlands, or my husband, who was in his element testing out a new lens. He ended up with over 4,000 shots! I’ve managed to whittle the collection down to just a few of my absolute favorites.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that…..
The basement gym transformation is officially complete! We’ve officially swapped the running theme for a National Parks tribute.
Our son and daughter-in-law gifted us these beautiful 10-inch plaques of our favorite parks. It was nearly impossible to narrow it down to ten! Bryce Canyon and Mesa Verde were top contenders that just missed the cut. I actually rank Bryce higher than Zion, but my husband disagreed—and since the Zion plaque looked better with the grouping, I let him have the final say. 😉
On the opposite wall, our national park map is framed by photos of our past adventures. Looking at it gives me that extra push to keep training—I work hard in the gym so I can continue exploring our beautiful national parks for years to come.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that…..
The Dawn Patrol crew loved the Winter Warrior Challenge so much that I’ve officially launched our March challenge: I Tri! 🏊♂️🚴♀️🏃♀️
To complete it, we’re aiming for:
- • 1 Swim per week
-
• 2 Runs/Walks per week
-
• 2 Bike sessions per week
The rules are simple: indoor or outdoor sessions both count, and there are no minimum distances. That said, though: I have zero intention of getting in the pool. I’m officially failing the swim portion of my own challenge before it even starts!
- Questions:
- • Have you jumped on the ChatGPT cartoon trend? ~ It took me a while, but I finally did it!
- • If you were participating in the I Tri Challenge, which would be your weakest link? ~ I’m not a very good swimmer and have zero desire to get any better because I really don’t enjoy participating in the sport.
- • If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?

Today I’m joining Deborah at Confessions Of A Mother Runner and Coco at Running With Perseverance for their monthly Ultimate Coffee Date linkup which goes live the first Friday of every month. Be sure to stop by their blogs for a cup of coffee and to say hello; and while you’re there, be sure to check out some of the other bloggers who are participating in the linkup.

Those bird photos are beautiful! I can’t believe your husband took 4000 photos! That must have been hard to pick the top few!
And I like the new theme of your gym – a great motivation to stay fit and healthy!
Your cartoon pic is great! I had ChatGTP do a Pixar version of a family pic last year, the result was hilarious!
Fortunately, my husband had already gone through his bird photos and cut them down to the best ones, sending me only around 30 of his favorites.
Thanks, we’re very happy with how the gym turned out. It’s definitely a motivator to stay fit!
I most love how young my ChatGPT picture makes me look! 😉 That seems to be the norm, though.
Your cartoon is great! AI is much better at making cartoons than trying to replicate photographs.
Nice challenge! I would also avoid the swimming. I didn’t learn to swim until I was 16 and never got any good at it so I don’t particularly enjoy it either.
Also, getting away from the ice is so beneficial. Ice-free trails are bliss! The bird photos are lovely – especially the last one with the blue bird, so much detail!
Thanks, Susanne! It was fun creating the ChatGPT photo. I used Gemini to create my blog header, but this was the first time I had AI alter a photo.
Even though I can swim, I’ve never been very good at it, and like you, don’t particularly enjoy it.
Thanks, I’ll let my husband know you enjoyed seeing his photos. We learned that that blue bird is invasive to Florida and makes a huge mess of the wetlands with his “clawing” at the dirt.
As you know, I’m probably the last American (?) who has not done the ChaGPT thing. That will soon change, I think … maybe it’ll generate a “buff Kim” image for me, LOL. Your hubby has a great eye for photography (but I’ve known that for a long time). Such beautiful pics!
I’m looking forward to seeing your buff Kim ChatGPT image! And thanks, I’ll let Bill know you liked his bird pictures.
Chat GPT did a great job! It really looks like you. Maybe I’ll try something like that (now that I know how great I could end up looking!)
I love your husband’s photos. That was such a fun day. I’m grateful that you and Darlene got me out there- I mean I live in the area and NEVER go! The timing was really lucky for us- we got to see so many birds (and their babies!)
Oof, swimming. I’m with you- I’m not very good and have no desire to get better. I did try at one point, and did a few sprint triathlons, but came to my senses pretty quickly.
I haven’t seen a single ChatGPT image with this trend that didn’t make the person look fantastic, and usually much younger.
It was a fun day at the wetlands and I’m happy we could make it work out. Also, the timing with seeing the babies was spot on!
What gorgeous pics you hubby took! I’m sure it was difficult to pick just a few.
I keep thinking swimming would be a great exercise for recovery from hip surgery…but then I remember that I cannot be submerged just yet. Ha!
Even though I had a triathlon era, swimming is still my weakest link.
Love the NP signs! What a fun gift!
Thanks, Marcia, I’ll let Bill know you enjoyed seeing his bird pictures.
Here’s to some therapeutic laps in the pool when you’re released to swim!
Wow those photos are just stunning! Your hubs is very talented 🙂 You picked a good time to head south for better weather. It was a rough February here for sure. Love your AI pic too!
I wasn’t the least bit sad to leave cold, cold Virginia! And thanks on the pictures complement, both the real ones and the AI generated one! 🙂
I love the heron and the babies and the Purple Gallinule. Never seen one made look so vibrant.
Living outside is such a wonderful turn of phrase, I may have to borrow it. It’s so true and why I love spring and fall so much
I wan’t familiar with the Purple Gallinule until a man pointed it out to us and said it’s an invasive bird that damages the wetlands with its constant digging. Have you heard that?
Those photos are fantastic! And, how fun that you got to meet up with Jenny and Darlene. And, I bet it was great to escape the cold – I’m so ready for this winter to be done.
I think Chat did a great job! I haven’t tried an AI photo yet but I’ve seen some good ones lately so I may give it a go.
Thanks, Michelle! Jenny, Darlene, and I had a great time hanging out at the bird sanctuary. And you’re correct, it was great to escape the cold weather!
Those bird photos are amazing. I thought Blue Herons were more blue-gray — that one is stunning!
I also love your National Park decor. Those plaques are really cool. We haven’t done any decorative updating since we moved into our house many years ago, other than our major kitchen remodel.
There’s a big difference between the color of the Little Blue Heron and the Great Blue Heron. The little is very blue and the great is more gray.
Those bird shots are just incredible! I bird-nerd out in the park as it is so I think I’d be going absolutely nuts had I been with you, Darlene and Jenny!
Love the National Park decor and I totally get wanting to be surrounded by that and the good memories. Not the same but when I redid my office/ music space I decided to just put random photos up on the walls in a gallery style – just people and places and memories that brought me joy. And when I go in there it truly does make me smile.
I haven’t done the AI thing, and I probably won’t. But yours did truly turn out great!!
Ah yes, the birds were so cool and we would have loved it if you could have joined the three of us – just a bit far for you to travel, though!
Don’t you just love it when something like your gallery wall brings you so much joy. We have a few other gallery walls in our basement that have pictures from our hikes out west that make me so happy whenever I look at them. 🙂
Oh I love the travel decor! I want to get one of those maps where you can put pins in the places you’ve visited.
No ChatGPT for me. I’m on the internet enough. AI doesn’t need pictures of me lol. Yours came out so cute, though!
Your bird photos are gorgeous! I’m not a big fan of birds, but you make them look so stunning.
Thanks, Jenn! Our son and d-i-l have a world map with the pins for the places they’ve visited. For now we’re sticking with the national parks map since that’s our immediate goal.
I’m glad you were able to escape the cold for 2+ weeks! I can’t wait to do more hiking/spending more time outside! 😀
Your husband is so talented! I can see why it’d be hard to pick just a couple favorites — the ones you shared are all absolutely beautiful! I love the colors on the purple gallinule (have never heard of these before but <3!).
Those plaques look so cool!! We definitely have a few overlapping favorites. (Grand Teton/Redwood/Yosemite for me — Acadia + Glacier are both suuuper high up on my bucket list though!) I love your wall! <3
Thanks, Farrah, I’ll pass your compliment along to my husband! The purple gallinule is beautiful, but another visitor told us that they’re an invasive species and are doing a lot of damage to the wetlands.
Have you been to Crater Lake National Park? We’re hoping to visit it this summer. It’s one I’ve wanted to visit since I was a little kid!
