National Margarita Day
Happy National Margarita Day! Not only is today my husband’s birthday, it’s also National Margarita Day! I always tease him by telling him that I prefer celebrating the national day more than his birthday. Of course, we celebrate his birthday with a margarita. Well, I do, he might choose another drink.
While in Florida, I enjoyed a margarita here and there, and that might explain why Garmin wasn’t always pleased with my workout performances (more on that on Sunday’s and Monday’s details).
Overview of the Week
Before getting into each day’s workouts, here’s an overview of my workouts from this past week. Scroll beyond the infographic for daily details…
Sunday
Road trip day 12: Drive from Westlake to Orlando, Florida
Walking: 1.13 miles
• Average pace: 25:04 minute/mile
• Elevation gain: 50 feet
• Start time: 6:09 PM
• Location: Orlando, Florida
• Weather: 72° (feels like 67°) and cloudy
• What I wore: shorts and s/s shirt
Pilates: Peloton Emma Lovewell 10-Minute Core Strength
After a relaxing morning in Westlake, we drove to see Virginia friends in Orlando, stopping to have lunch with our nephew and his family along the way. Once in Orlando, we took a relaxing walk to dinner enjoying the opportunity to move our legs a bit. My Garmin had not been pleased with my multitude of workouts over the past week and I threw him a bone by taking a very relaxing day. I was rewarded with moving my training status from “detraining” to “unproductive”. Is that a good thing? LOL
Monday
Road trip day 13: Drive from Orlando to Winter Garden, Florida
Strength training: 1 hour of total body
Cycling: 21.18 miles
• Bike: Salsa Warbird
• Average speed: 12.8 MPH
• Surface: paved
• Elevation gain: 659 feet
• Start time: 12:42 PM
• Location: Winter Garden to Clermont loop
• Weather: 68° and cloudy
• What I wore: bike shorts, s/s jersey, arm sleeves, light jacket, and fingerless gloves (took jacket and arm sleeves off about 5 miles in)
Stretching: Peloton Tunde Oyeneyin 5-Minute Post-Ride Stretch
Two years ago when we did the Florida Coast-to-Coast ride, we loved Winter Garden so much that we decided to spend a few nights there during our trip and re-ride some of the West Orange Trail.
Yet another set of Virginia friends happened to be in the area and after a fantastic early morning workout in their condo gym, they joined us for an early afternoon ride.
And with this ride, Gamin decided I was “maintaining” and suggested, ” Your current training load is sufficient to maintain your fitness level. To see improvement, try working out longer or more often.” Wait, what? Didn’t Garmin think I was working out too much just two days earlier? In actuality, I suspect my rest level (and the fact that I was having the occasional drink) wasn’t sufficient recovery to maintain my level of exercise during that time period.
Tuesday
Road trip day 14: Winter Garden, Florida
Pilates: Peloton Emma Lovewell 10-Minute Core Strength
Stretching: Peloton Tunde Oyeneyin 5-Minute Post-Ride Stretch
Cycling: 30.05 miles
• Bike: Salsa Warbird
• Average speed: 12.5 MPH
• Surface: paved
• Elevation gain: 568 feet
• Start time: 8:54 AM
• Location: Winter Garden to Apopka loop
• Weather: 61° and sunny, climbing to 78° and partly cloudy
• What I wore: bike shorts, s/s jersey, arm sleeves, and fingerless gloves (took arm sleeves off about 8 miles in)
After our ride, I did a different stretching class (same instructor, though). Later that evening we walked from our Airbnb to downtown Winter Garden for dinner at the Hangry Bison (isn’t that a great name?). With Garmin’s auto-start for walks, it recorded a total of ¾-mile.
Wednesday
Road trip day 15: Drive from Winter Garden, Florida through Georgia and South Carolina to Charlotte, North Carolina
Strength training: 1 hour of total body
Stretching: Peloton Adrian Williams 15-Minutes Stretch for Longevity
I was super proud of myself for hitting our son and daughter-in-law’s gym after a long day on the road. And because I felt tight from sitting in the car for so long, I did my favorite stretching class. Unfortunately, my workout interfered with taking Pablo for a walk, but there was still plenty of time to love on him all evening.
Thursday
Road trip day 16: Drive from Charlotte, North Carolina to home
Pilates: Peloton Emma Lovewell 5-Minute Core Strength
After spending another long rainy day in the car, we arrived home late in the afternoon. After unpacking, watering my houseplants (a friend had watered them once while we were away), I only took time to do a short class before collapsing into bed.
Friday
Strength training: 1 hour of total body
Pilates: Peloton Emma Lovewell 10-Minute Core Strength
Even though I was back home, I’d taken the day off from work. In addition to lifting weights, I’d planned to fit in a walk during the afternoon, but a nap took precedence and the walk never happened.
Saturday
Walking: 5.07 miles
• Average pace: 15:45 minute/mile
• Elevation gain: 192 feet
• Start time: 8:06 AM
• Location: neighborhood trails
• Weather: 39° and cloudy, climbing to 44° (feels like 36°)
• What I wore: capris, s/s shirt, fleece jacket, puffer jacket, and mittens over gloves (took fleece jacket and mittens off after first mile)
Pilates: Peloton Emma Lovewell 5-minute Core Strength
After missing our virtual cardio workouts together for a few weeks while I was on vacation, Kim and I enjoyed catching up while I walked and she rode her spin bike, walked, and shoveled snow. Yes, we chatted for that long! The recent warmer temps and rain had melted most of our snow except for the huge piles on street corners that I had to navigate around.
Winter Warrior Challenge Outdoor Workouts
The eighth week of the Winter Warrior Challenge is complete and here’s how my week worked out…
Number of outdoor rides (goal is 1) : 2 (Monday and Tuesday)
Number of outdoor walks (goal is 2): 2 (Sunday and Saturday)
Number of strength training sessions (goal is 2): 3 (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday)
Garmin Badges Earned
Three Garmin badges made their way to me this week.
Last Week’s Blog Posts
In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…
- • Sunday – Weekly RunDown: February 8 – 14 / Another Week in the Sunshine State
- • Thursday – Congaree in the Winter: Trading Mosquitoes for Shivers
Questions:
- • How’s your weather been recently? ~ We drove home from Florida in the rain to a couple of mild days in Virginia. Today, though, we’re expecting more snow. Originally, with the American and the Euro models miles apart, our forecast was for anywhere between 3 and 36 inches of snow. HaHa! It appears the Euro model is winning out and our forecast is now 3 to 6 inches. After being in Florida, I’m ready for spring!
- • If you look up your birthday on the National Day calendar, what day does your birthday fall on? ~ My birthday falls on National Pickle Day!
- • Which workout did you enjoy most this past week? ~ I enjoyed Monday’s ride with our friends and Saturday’s walk with Kim.
And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!

Oh, what a great way to celebrate Margarita Day! It’s better than Pickle Day, haha!!
Garmin is such a diva! I think you did well, that upgrade from Detraining to Maintaining is well-earned! Who knows, maybe the margaritas are a secret weapon?
Between rides, walks, and Pilates, it sounds like the perfect mix of hard training and well-earned fun in the Florida sunshine. Nice job, Debbie!
I suspect the margaritas were the culprit in the training status demise because the status improved a few of days after those drinks in the collage were enjoyed. 😉
And yes, it was a great trip to Florida with the perfect mix of outdoor activities and fun with friends!
Happy birthday to your hubs! I think a margarita is a great way to celebrate, birthday or not.
It’s great that you were able to keep up with your workouts while you were away. It has to be jarring to return to winter after your time in the south! We had a few warm days this week, and I wish they had stuck around! I’m also ready for spring!
Thanks, Wendy! And yes, it was quite the adjustment to come home to winter reality.
Looks like you had another fun adventure on 2 wheels! I’m kinda of over this winter! It has seemed especially rough with all the precipitation. Today seems like a total bust on the snow and I’m not disappointed
Out here the winter storm warning is in effect between 3 PM today and 10 AM tomorrow. I hope the forecasters are wrong!
Hmm! There are several “days” listed for my birthday, but my favorite is National French Bread Day. I’m going with that one.
I’ve never been to Winter Garden! Should I go? It looks really nice.
I ignore almost everything my Garmin tells me.
Happy Birthday to your husband! Enjoy the margaritas! ; )
Winter Garden has such a cute downtown with some really good restaurants! We stayed in an Airbnb just a few blocks from downtown and the West Orange Trail which made it easy for us to walk to dinner and hop on the trail easily for rides.
And thanks for Bill’s birthday wishes!
Happy Bday to your hubby, the photographer/biker.
we are getting another snowstorm so I don’t think I’ll get my margarita.
I visited Winter garden many years ago and enjoyed it.. we took a boat ride and visited the Tiffany museum.
We had temps in the 30s. Is that a arm up?
My favorite workout was anything I did in Florida. Probably’s Tuesday’s long walk.
Those workouts in the Florida sun (this time of year) are pretty cool, right?
Thanks for Bill’s birthday wishes! I stopped to pick up fresh produce on my way home from church this morning and forgot to get limes for our margaritas so we’re going to walk back to the store once it starts snowing. 🙂
Happy Bday to Bill and Happy Margarita Day (I celebrated a day early, LOL). I can’t remember…do you like pickles? I’d be in a world of discontent if that was my national day…but, as you know, Pi suits me fine 😉 It was great catching-up with you, all 90+ minutes of it!
Thanks for Bill’s birthday wishes! I do like dill and sweet pickles, especially the ones my mom used to can. ☺️ You have a birthday coming up soon!
Yes, it was so great catching up yesterday!
Well of course mine is 420… April 20… so WEED day! Do I smoke it? Never have! But I did eat a pot brownie once in high school and that did not end well, so I’ve never been tempted to try it again 🙂 Lesson learned. Drugs are bad.
Ouch on the Garmin “detraining” and “unproductive”. I’ve been keeping steady with “overreaching” this week due to out-of-shape-ness. Garmin thinks I’m going to fall over dead from exhaustion I’m pretty sure!
I noticed there was a dehydrated orange in your drink. I saw one of those for the first time when we went to Mexico last September. I didn’t know it was a thing! It is a great idea for storage purposes, but I think of potpourri when I see it.
Our favorite local Tex-Mex restaurant puts dehydrated oranges (or is it limes?) in their margaritas, too. I’d never thought of it looking like potpourri, but from now on I’m sure that’s what I’ll think of (and of you)! LOL
You know, I had never heard of 4/20 being weed day until I was in my 40’s and a co-worker told me about it. I lived a very sheltered life! My reason to never, ever do drugs came last year when I was in the ER prior to my emergency appendectomy and was given IV fentanyl and morphine for about 12 hours for pain prior to surgery. I had horrible psychedelic dreams for days afterward whenever I napped or slept. It was awful!
That’s perfect to have one’s birthday on National Margarita day! No need to figure out what to drink!
When I did a search on my birthday, I found it’s Darwin day. Not as exciting as Margarita but I much prefer that than pickles!
I hope you avoided the snow. Here it’s been rainy and windy all the time lately, but I’m happy it’s fairly mild and that we get to enjoy ice-free roads.
What was my favouirite workout this week? All of them!
Right? I’m so jealous of my husband!
The snow if coming down fast and furious as I type and we’re expected to get up to six inches overnight. Looks like we got home from Florida just in time…
I love that ALL of your workouts are your favorite!
PABLO!
What a great trip! Road trips are so fun. I’ll be Orlando next weekend and I’m excited for it. When I’m in the car for hours, I like to walk or run before hand and then walk a little bit after. It helps keep me loose.
I just looked it up and my birthday is for things like “National Lost Sock Memorial Day,” “National Sleepover Day,” and “National Moscato Day.” Not too bad, I guess.
Enjoy your trip to Orlando! And National Moscato Day isn’t such a bad day to celebrate. 😉
