~ Runfessions ~
A collection of statements admitting
that one is guilty of a variety of running crimes…

It’s time again to join in on the fun and clear my conscience of recent running, biking, fitness, nutrition, and life in general faux pas. I know I’ll feel better when I’m done, and maybe, just maybe, I’ll give you a laugh or two in the process!

I blogfess: I’ve started doing quarterly runfessions because I’m just not clever enough to come up with an entertaining monthly post. One of my local friends who reads my blog once told me that I’m a lot funnier in person than on my blog…

I runfess/bikefess: Since I’ve stopped running, I’d forgotten all about having toe socks and how they helped prevent my toes from rubbing against each other and developing blisters. During our summer road trip one of my toes suddenly started hurting and hurt for the entire trip whenever I wore my hiking and cycling shoes (it was fine in my regular sneakers and casual shoes). Once home, I remembered my toe socks and started wearing them again. Problem solved!

I runfess/bikefess: In my last runfessions post I wrote that I don’t wear underwear under lined running shorts or cycling shorts and asked what my readers do. I got lots of responses and because I know you’ve been on pins and needles waiting for the final tally, it came out pretty evenly split, just like opinions on just about everything else in the world.

  • Under running shorts
  • • Underwear – 4
  • • No underwear – 4

  • Under cycling shorts
  • • Underwear – 5
  • • No underwear – 3

I walkfess: I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned this before, but the weather seems to effect the speed on my Garmin. I often walk on our neighborhood street that’s a half-mile circle and I’m always aware of which house I’m in front of when the Garmin beeps each mile. On cloudy days the Garmin beeps out the first mile several houses earlier than on clear days. It was very cloudy this past Wednesday when my Garmin notified me that the first mile was complete about five houses earlier than usual and my average pace was a sub-15.

I thought maybe it just had to do with the cooler weather causing my performance to improve, but the distance is longer on those cloudy days…

There you have it, my most recent fessions; and you can bet that it feels good to get another set off of my chest!
