Front-Loading My Week

With plans to travel out of town to attend our niece’s wedding I front-loaded my week’s workouts as best I could. I had to finagle things a bit to work around a minor surgery, but it all worked out and even gave me a little extra rest time.

Overview of the Week

Before getting into each day’s workouts, here’s an overview of my workouts from this past week. Scroll beyond the infographic for daily details…

Sunday

Cycling: 42 miles
• Bike: Life Fitness Lifecycle GX Spin
• Average speed: 16.2 MPH
• Surface: N/A
• Elevation gain: N/A
• Start time: 8:40 AM
• Location: basement
• Weather: 66° in the basement, 69° and cloudy outside

Walking: 3.12 miles
• Average pace: 16:18 minute/mile
• Elevation gain: 119 feet
• Start time: 1:05 PM
• Location: neighborhood trails
• Weather: 80° and partly cloudy
• What I wore: shorts, s/s shirt, and visor

With family fun planned for later in the afternoon, I hopped on my spin bike for a nice little ride before heading out for a walk. I kept my walk in the woods to try to stay a little cooler, but still finished a sweaty mess.

Monday

Strength training: 1 hour of total body

Cycling: 55.31 miles
• Bike: Specialized Roubaix Comp
• Average speed: 13.2 MPH
• Surface: paved
• Elevation gain: 1,913 feet
• Start time: 10:17 AM
• Location: W&OD Trail Sterling/Purcellville loop
• Weather: 74° and sunny with low humidity, climbing to 81° and partly cloudy

With a mid-day client cancelation I was able to get outside for a solo bike ride earlier than expected and as a result, go a little farther. I learned two things on this ride: stopping for any amount of time will result in spotted lanternflies landing on you and they’re fast! I tried stomping this guy, but he kept hopping away. In more fun news, my husband surprised me by meeting me on the trail and accompanying me the last 10 miles.

Tuesday

Rest day

I had an 7:30 AM appointment with my dermatologist to remove another basal cell carcinoma from my right lateral chest/almost armpit area. I followed my doctor’s orders and didn’t workout the rest of the day, instead visiting a friend who was in the hospital and then running several errands.

Wednesday

Strength training: 30 minutes of core and lower body

Walking: 3.02 miles
• Average pace: 15:27 minute/mile
• Elevation gain: 129 feet
• Start time: 12:37 PM
• Location: neighborhood circle
• Weather: 72° and sunny with 45% humidity, climbing to 74°
• What I wore: shorts, s/s shirt, and visor

Cycling: 8.1 miles
• Bike: Life Fitness Lifecycle GX Spin
• Average speed: 16.2 MPH
• Surface: N/A
• Elevation gain: N/A
• Start time: 1:52 PM
• Location: basement
• Weather: 68° in the basement; 74° and partly cloudy outside

Up early for a busy morning of seeing clients, I fit in a short core and lower body workout first thing. Every client mentioned how glorious the weather was outside and I couldn’t wait to get out for my walk once I finished up work. I even fit in a short spin before continuing with my day.

Thursday

Cycling: 18 miles
• Bike: Life Fitness Lifecycle GX Spin
• Average speed: 16.3 MPH
• Surface: N/A
• Elevation gain: N/A
• Start time: 4:45 AM
• Location: basement
• Weather: 66° in the basement; 53° and partly cloudy outside

Walking: 3.16 miles
• Average pace: 15.19 minute/mile
• Elevation gain: 167 feet
• Start time: 6:11 AM
• Location: neighborhood circle
• Weather: 53° and mostly cloudy
• What I wore: shorts, s/s shirt, nylon jacket, and visor

I got up a lot earlier than planned… At 3:05 I got up to use the bathroom and when I still hadn’t gone back to sleep at 3:35 I just got up and started my day. I used my spare time wisely and fit in a spin before dialing up Kim for our weekly virtual cardio date. We decided in advance to celebrate College Colors Day a day early and both donned our alma maters’ colors – Iowa’s black and gold for Kim, Virginia Tech’s maroon and orange for me.

Friday

Strength training: 30 minutes of core and lower body

Our niece’s wedding wasn’t too terribly far from where my mom lives so we visited with my mom and helped her celebrate her 93rd birthday a little early. Next we drove up to Mill Mountain to check out the star, and while there, took a nature hike through the wildflower garden.

Once we checked into the hotel, we did a quick workout before meeting my husband’s siblings for dinner.

Saturday

Rest day

Our niece’s wedding was beautiful and we celebrated her and our new nephew-in-law all afternoon/evening – they even had a frozen lemonade truck (with a great name) outside for guests to enjoy immediately after the ceremony and before driving to the reception. Unfortunately, at some point after this picture was taken and just as cocktail hour was finishing up, I lost my Fitbit (I noticed it missing as I walked into the ballroom for dinner) so my weekly steps only are accurate through 11:45 AM yesterday when I last synced my watch.

Edited to add that I found my Fitbit tucked away in the corner below the seat in our SUV this morning. Luckily for me, it had most likely fallen off my wrist as I was getting out of the car at the hotel and fallen backwards into the vehicle.

Questions:
  • • How’s the weather in your neck of the woods? ~ This past week’s weather has been delightful and more than made up for the previous week’s drizzly days.
  • • Do you enjoy weddings? ~ I’m lucky in that my husband does (some guys don’t) and we usually spend the entire evening on the dance floor.
  • • Which workout did you enjoy most this past week? ~ Monday’s ride was especially enjoyable because the weather was so perfect.

And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!
