It’s time to sit down once again with a beverage of your choice and chat – I’ll remind you that I don’t like coffee or tea so my drink of choice today will be water. Let’s chat about things other than just running, cycling, strength training, yoga, and our most recent injuries. Sound good? I’ll go first…
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I had a good month of fitness in July even though I spent a lot of time sitting in our SUV. I had decent cycling miles – in fact I was so far ahead of my goal pace for the year that I increased my goal from 5,000 to 6,000 miles. I had fewer than normal walking miles, but those were replaced with hiking miles. Here’s how the month shook out…
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that we had a fabulous 32-day road trip. My husband planned the entire trip and drove every single mile. We covered close to 7,000 miles across 15 states (no new states this year), saw grad school friends in Utah, other friends in Wyoming, my aunt and cousins in Illinois, and my mom in Virginia. It was epic!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that my friend Chuck sent a link to the All Fifty States Club. BTW, you don’t need to set up an account to check off the states you’ve visited, just start clicking on your visited states and they’ll turn from gray to navy. With a goal to visit all 50 plus as many national parks as possible, we’re starting to plan our next few trips!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that my Garmin alligator clip charger finally broke while we were away (I mentioned it was on it’s last leg in last month’s runfessions post). Without the clip functioning to hold it tight to the charging electrodes, I had to get creative; and if I’m nothing else, I’m resourceful. I only needed to charge it once before we got home so I precariously set a little hotel lamp on it. Once home I discovered that one of my little craft clamps works perfectly. I’m still trying to decide which Garmin to purchase next (Coco, I like your square Venu suggestion and it’s a possibility). In the meantime, charging my Garmin is no problem.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that today is my husband’s and my 44th wedding anniversary! What a fun time we’ve had building our life and wonderful little family together!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that we’ve got a very special little friend coming to visit on Sunday for a week so expect to see lots of Pablo pictures on social media and in the blog! And because I can’t resist, here’s a picture from a previous visit.
- Questions:
- • How many states have you visited? ~ 40 so far for me
- • Are you resourceful, creative, something else? ~ I don’t know if I’m very creative, but I am resourceful.
- • If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?

And happy anniversary to you both – 44 years is amazing! Will you be doing something special?
And I’m in awe of your stats for July, despite all the time you had to spend in a car. Well done on the Garmin hack – now I will know what to do when my charger breaks down, ha!
Thank you, Catrina! We went out to a favorite local restaurant for drinks and dinner. We’re thinking we should plan something a little more elaborate for our 45th!
Happy Anniversary! Phew, that’s a long time to be married- you’ve obviously made a success of it. Nice job- because marriage takes a lot of work.
So those are the states you’ve been to? It’s funny because I’ve been to every single state you haven’t. I grew up in IL so WI and MI were closeby. I’ve driven to Texas many times (crossing over those southern states on the way) and on the recent trip to IL we drove through the others. I’ll be interested to see if you incorporate those into future trips!
Thanks, Jenny! Yes, the blue states are the ones I’ve visited. You guessed it, we do plan to visit some of those states in January if all goes as planned.
Happy anniversary! It sure is impressive to pull off a trip like that by car and bike! How fun! Well, I highly recommend visiting Alaska. It was one of our favorite trips and I’d love to go back and see more of it.
Alaska is definitely on our list! In fact, my husband has had dreams three nights this past week that he was driving to Alaska. I’m pretty sure we’d fly, though.
You’ve inspired me to make a list of all the states I’ve visited (or access the link, LOL). I’d like to say I’ve run in every state at some point (doesn’t have to be an actual race for me). Congrats on 44!!!!
Thanks, Kim! Running in, not racing is definitely the way to go.
Happy Anniversary.
What a road trip. You have an amazing husband. I’m the planner in my family. But he does the driving.
Unfortunately he hates to travel. Sigh.
Thanks, Darlene! Ah yes, now all of the girl’s trips you take makes complete sense!
Happy anniversary! And yay for Pablo! he’s such a sweet guy!
You really did have an incredible trip! And way to go on figuring out how to get your Garmin to charge!
Thanks, Jenn!
Happy Anniversary! What a wonderful trip! I’ve been to 42 states. Actually, I’ve run a half marathon in those states.
Thanks, Zenaida! Running a half marathon in 42 different states is impressive!
Happy Anniversary! That was an epic road trip for sure! I believe I have Montana, Idaho and New Mexico left to hit all 50 states. Hopefully someday soon. How fun to have Pablo paying an extended visit!
Thanks, Marcia! Only three states left for you, that’s great! We’re hoping to knock several off in January/February.
Happy Anniversary! It sounds like you had a really great trip.
That 50 states map is cool. It does make you want to check them all off.
Thanks, Coco!
Happy anniversary! We have one missing state in common, Wisconsin. I also need Iowa, Kentucky Missouri and Kansas. Soon!
Thank you! We hope to get a bunch of the gulf coast states taken care of in January or February.
